Price Transparency and Funding

We are keen to ensure that as a client you know the costs of our services and are committed to providing Price Transparency wherever we can. Where we cannot do so, due to the case being one which is likely to be long or complex, we will be happy to discuss our charging rates with you and to provide a payment plan if that helps you manage your finances.

Our Fixed Fees are as follows:

Road Traffic Offence, Guilty Plea – fixed fee £450.00 plus VAT and disbursements.

Fee includes:

  • 2 hours attendance/preparation:
    • considering evidence
    • taking your instructions
    • providing advice on likely sentence
  • Attendance and representation at a single hearing at the Magistrates Court

The fee does not include:

  • instruction of any expert witnesses
  • taking statements from any witnesses
  • advice and assistance in relation to a special reasons hearing
  • advice and assistance in relation to an argument for mitigating circumstances
  • advice or assistance in relation to any appeal

The key stages of your matter are based on the presumption that you have entered a guilty plea and have a date for your hearing.

  • Meet with your solicitor to provide instructions on what happened.
  • We will consider initial disclosure, and any other evidence and provide advice.
  • Arranging to take any witness statements if necessary (this will have an additional cost, of £200 per hour).
  • We will explain the court procedure to you so you know what to expect on the day of your hearing, and the sentencing options available to the court.
  • We will conduct any further preparatory work, obtain further instructions from you if necessary and answer any follow up queries you have.
  • We cannot provide a timescale of when your hearing will take place, as this depends on the court listing for that day.
  • We will attend court on the day and meet with you before going before the court. We anticipate being at court for half a day.
  • We will discuss the outcome with you. If advice is required on appeal, this will carry an additional cost.

Non-Road Traffic Summary (Magistrates Court) Guilty Plea & Sentencing – £450.00 plus VAT and Disbursements.

Fee Includes:

  • Attendance and representation at a single hearing at the Magistrates Court

  • any adjourned hearing for sentence which will incur an additional fixed fee of £300.00 plus VAT and Disbursements

  • Attendance and representation at a single hearing at the Magistrates Court

The fee does not include:

  • instruction of any expert witnesses
  • taking statements from any witnesses
  • advice or assistance in relation to any appeal

Half Day Trial in Magistrates Courts where we regularly appear– £2000.00 plus VAT and Disbursements.

Fee Includes:

  • 5 hours attendance/preparation:
    • considering evidence
    • taking your instructions
    • providing advice on the evidence.
    • advising as to plea
    • taking a proof from you
    • seeing your witnesses
    • instructing any expert (subject to you putting us in funds to discharge their fees in full)
    • dealing with any applications made by the Crown or are required to advance your case
  • Attendance and representation at the plea hearing, any Case Management Hearing and the first listed trial date.

The fee does not include:

  • any adjourned trial date which will incur a further fixed fee of £500 plus VAT and Disbursements
  • advice or assistance in relation to any appeal
  • any adjourned hearing for sentence which will incur an additional fixed fee of £300.00 plus VAT and Disbursements

  • We will attend court for the plea and case management hearing and for the first listed trial date and on each meet with you before going before the court. We anticipate in relation to the trial being at court for half a day.

Full Day Trial in Magistrates Courts where we regularly appear– £2000.00 plus VAT and Disbursements.

Fee Includes:

  • 7 hours attendance/preparation:
    • considering evidence
    • taking your instructions
    • providing advice on the evidence.
    • advising as to plea
    • taking a proof from you
    • seeing your witnesses
    • instructing any expert (subject to you putting us in funds to discharge their fees in full)
    • dealing with any applications made by the Crown or are required to advance your case
  • Attendance and representation at the plea hearing, any Case Management Hearing and the first listed trial date.

The fee does not include:

  • any adjourned trial date which will incur a further fixed fee of £800 plus VAT and Disbursements
  • advice or assistance in relation to any appeal
  • any adjourned hearing for sentence which will incur an additional fixed fee of £300.00 plus VAT and Disbursements

Where your case does not fall into one of these fixed fee categories, we will be happy to discuss our fee arrangements and payment plans but, as a guide, our normal hourly charging rates are as follows:

  • Senior Solicitor/FILEX (with greater than 8 years PQE): £250.00
  • Junior Solicitor/FILEX: £200.00
  • All other fee earners: £150.00
